The Paramedic provides onsite emergency medical services within an industrial environment, tending to both urgent and non-urgent medical needs.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Medical assistance at accidents, emergencies and other related incidents, in an ambulance or MTC.
  • Assesses the condition of patients at a clinic location.
  • Respond to emergency calls 24/7
  • Provides immediate course of treatment en route to hospital or on scene.
  • Applies splints to limbs, dressing wounds, administering pain relief, oxygen, drips and fluids.
  • Uses technical equipment, CPAP, AED, ECG in order to resuscitate and stabilize patients.
  • May administer IV and Entonox
  • May administer Oral Glucose, 050, and Epi
  • Make available Over the Counter drugs (as required)
  • Make available ASA8 I mg (as required)
  • May administer Narcotics (as required)
  • Completes procedures when necessary, such as intubation (insertion of a breathing tube), suturing etc.
  • Monitors patient’s condition.
  • Assesses whether and how to move patients and, where appropriate, the best location to transport them to.
  • Liaises with members of other emergency services, such as the police, fire brigade and other ambulance services to ensure the appropriate level of response is provided.
  • Deals with members of the public/worksite present at the scene.
  • Drives an ambulance or other rapid response vehicle.
  • Cleans, decontaminates and checks vehicles, clinics, and equipment to maintain a state of operational readiness.
  • Maintains medical documentation and reports on patient’s conditions.
  • Attend daily safety meetings

Requirements/ Education

  • ACP registered
  • WHIMIS/TDG/IPS New Hire Training
  • H2S Alive and PST/CSTS
  • ACLS
  • Class 5 (or equivalent) Driver’s License

Other Skills/Abilities:

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Functional knowledge of computer operations, including Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Effectively organize and prioritize situations and activities ranging from urgent patient care issues to routine office and clinic duties
  • Must be reliable, dependable and capable of working in a fast-paced team environment
  • Able to travel via motor vehicle and air transport

Working Conditions:

  • Variable schedule. Commonly 2 weeks on and 2 weeks off; 12 hours per day. Schedule may change frequently and without notice at any time.
  • Day and night shifts. Will be required to remain on-site for duration of shift.
  • On call 24hrs/day for emergency response or clinic coverage.
  • May require lifting > 50 lbs. for short duration.
  • The Emergency Medical Technician – Paramedic may be required to do additional standby;
    by and on-call duties depending on medical needs at the time.
  • Exposure to medical occupational hazards (such as needle stick and pathogens)
  • Frequent travel required

Leadership

  • Provides education and development to junior staff

Supervision:

  • Works under limited supervision
  • Reports to Operations Manager

IPS is currently hiring energetic, self-starters to work in an industrial setting. The EMR will provide immediate Basic Life Support medical care when summoned without delay, properly triage, advise and/or arrange for timely transport to a health care facility as needed.  

Directly report to:        Area Station Manager

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Make sure that you are always acting in a manner that ensures the patient’s dignity, safety, privacy, confidentiality, and decision-making are maintained
  • Ensure that injured workers are provided with immediate and professional on-site medical care within their scope of practice, and to advise and/or arrange timely transport to additional medical care as needed
  • Read, understand, and comply with HSE Integrated safety and medical services policies, Workplace Scope of Practice Guidelines, Medical Control Guidelines, as well as all applicable government laws and regulations.
  • Should not perform any task(s) outside their scope of duties or professional practice as outlined by the appropriate provincial regulatory body
  • Report to and take direction from the Station Manager for the district in which he/she is working
  • Other duties will be assigned as necessary

Employees Safety Responsibilities:

  • Be familiar with and work in accordance with health and safety legislation and company policies and procedure
  • Take reasonable care to use safety and personal protective equipment as required by health and safety legislation and company policies and procedures
  • Report to HSE Integrated supervision and management immediately any incident or condition believed to be hazardous to worker’s health or safety
  • Refuse the work if danger is imminent or not controlled

Required Qualifications

  • Previous EMR experience
  • Previous industrial medical experience is an asset
  • Possess a fundamental understanding of drilling, service and completion environments, with a general working knowledge of
    associated processes
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Physically capable of performing the following tasks:
  • Working at heights and / or climbing ladders or stairs
  • Lifting up to 50lbs
  • Pushing / pulling (tools / objects)
  • Sitting / driving
  • Bending / kneeling / crouching
  • Standing / walking for long periods of time
  • Working in adverse weather environments (heat / cold) and conditions (rain / wind / snow)
  • Potential shift lengths 10 – 12 hours, should be available to work longer if client requirements demand longer shifts or schedule changes
  • Employee must ensure that they are staying hydrated, alert and fit for duty at all times

Required Certifications & Training

  • Previous EMR experience
  • Current (unrestricted) EMR registration with the applicable provincial licensing body
  • Standard 1st – Aid/CPR and BLS HCP Level C
  • H2S Alive
  • Valid unrestricted license with full driving privileges in the province of issue for the specified class of vehicle to be operated on behalf of the company or a higher class of license than that of the vehicle to be operated.
  • Confined Space Rescue training
  • HSE Driving program
  • HSE Orientation
  • HSE Respiratory Protection
  • HSE Gas Detection
  • Petroleum Safety Training (PST) & Construction Safety Training System (CSTS)
  • EGSO ~ Enform

Position Overview

  • Representing IPS in a courteous positive and professional manner
  • Drive to job site in an MTC in a safe manner allowing for road conditions
  • Clean and inspect vehicle before leaving field office and cleaned upon return
  • Address health and safety issues within scope of practice
  • Maintain cleanliness on job location
  • Complete and submit all forms and paper work in a tidy and complete manner
  • Other duties as required

Qualifications:

  • Valid Class 5 or higher license
  • Clean Driver’s Abstract
  • Valid H2S Alive ticket
  • Valid PST ticket
  • WHMIS & TDG
  • Seismic Experience is mandatory

Schedule of Work:
